Self-belief is a superpower and something we all need to have! Self-belief is contagious and will rub off on those around us. When starting to work towards your dream, it’s easy to get bogged down by obstacles, problems, and uncertainties. However, self-belief is like a rock that can weather any storm. But…
Why do some people lack self-belief?
Everyone is born with self-belief, but that doesn’t mean some of it isn’t knocked out of us as we travel down our different paths in life. Sometimes we hit bumps in the road or undergo periods where what’s required of us is too demanding, becoming overly absorbed in our daily tasks and responsibilities, sometimes these things can leave a permanent shadow on our self-worth and finally we stop believing in ourselves.
Here are 3 common things that make people lose self-belief.
1. Toxic relationships
An unhappy home isn’t a good place to grow up. This is because as kids we are impacted greatly by our peers and their treatment of us. When we’re growing up, how you’re treated by others like your parents or siblings has a lot of influence on the way you view yourself as a person which in turn affects how confident you are about yourself.
2. Traumatic Experiences
Experiencing distressing or traumatic events can be tough and can sometimes hit us very hard. Such experiences can make you feel helpless, hurt and even hopeless in some cases. Eventually, such an experience will make you feel unworthy of your goals and lose belief.
3. Bad Decisions
Sometimes our past experiences influence how we make decisions and can cause us to question if we’re doing things right or not. In reality, though, all one needs is to accept themselves for who they are and not let the fear of doing something wrong or simply doubt what they will do stop them from deciding at all.
So can we regain our self-belief?
Here are 3 ways through which you can develop self-belief.
1. Identify your goals
Self-belief is one of the most valuable things to have in business. When you have it, everything seems to fall in place and work out for you seamlessly. Identify your goals and work towards them. Ask yourself this question, “If I did not care what others think, what would I do or how would I like myself?” When you answer this question honestly, you’re already on the right track towards changing your life. This level of self-awareness is key for creating a strong self-belief because the more honest we are with ourselves about our strengths, limits, potentials and passions the better.
2. Face your fears
We all have fears and it’s important to address them and overcome them to become the best version of oneself. The quickest way to believe in yourself is by facing your fears. If you used to be afraid of the dark, try not to be afraid today. Just go into a dark room and stay there until you aren’t scared anymore.
3. Cut off negative relationships
A lot many people can hurt your self-esteem if they remain close to you. These so-called friends who make you feel unworthy or not good enough through their words or actions should be cut off. This is because keeping such people around you will destroy every effort you make to develop your self-belief and deter you from improving yourself.
